Company History

A brief history of Extraordinary Bodies:

In 2011 Diverse City created Breathe, a new integrated multinational youth company with 64 performers from Dorset and Florianopolis, Brazil, supported by Unlimited as part of London 2012 and the Cultural Olympiad.

In 2012 Cirque Bijou put the Breathe company at the heart of their large scale outdoor co-production, Battle for the Winds, which celebrated the launch of the Sailing and Windsurfing events at Weymouth and Portland before 13,000 people.

In 2013 both companies decided to keep the momentum going and so Extraordinary Bodies was born. Together we were commissioned to create Weighting as a part of Exeter City Council’s outdoor arts festival Unexpected.

In 2014 Extraordinary Bodies won the top prize of £100,000 from The Clore Duffield Foundation to support The 2015 Weighting Tour and participatory programme Sings, Leads & Plays

In 2015 the newly developed Extraordinary Bodies show Weighting toured the UK. With support from Arts Council England, The Esmee Fairbairn Foundation and The Clore Duffield Foundation, we delivered shows and our participatory program Sings, Leads & Plays in Southwark, Fleetwood, Olympic Park London and Stoke-on-Trent.

In 2016 Weighting is available for booking and the company is busy putting together a long term plan for the future of Extraordinary Bodies…
